We are incredibly sad to see one of our most successful skills development programmes come to an end early 2019. Five years ago, we were able to offer 100 unemployed parents of children with autism the opportunity to work as classroom assistants. The parents were upskilled in a classroom environment with practical training provided to them on a monthly basis. A further 35 young autistic adults were trained in various life skills. These are volunteer posts, however, through sponsorship we were able to pay them a small monthly stipend. Each one of these parents have made a tangible difference in the classrooms of the special needs schools that their children attend in the township communities of Alexandra, Soweto, Thembisa, Daveyton, Lanseria, Garankuwa, Mamelodi and Soshanguve.
Every year, we put together a small Christmas Hamper for each one of them, and we are now asking for your help – we are looking for non-perishable food items as well as toiletries so we can help these incredible people enjoy their festive season. We would really like to make this year’s hamper extra special!
